In this complete reimagining of Pride and Prejudice, Erin Butler places a mystery inside one of the most beloved titles of all time.

All of Meryton is in a state of shock.

Mr. Petrie, the shopkeeper, has been found dead. Worse yet for the Bennet family, their father is implicated in the murder. It could not have come at a more abhorrent time as Mr. Bingley has just settled at Netherfield and the whole family has high hopes of one of their daughter's marrying the gentleman.

Elizabeth knows what must be done. In order for her family to keep its good name, the stain of guilt must be removed. The murderer must be sought--and she is the one to do it. Through inquiries and mishaps, and a little help from Mr. Darcy, Elizabeth stumbles upon the answers to bring her closer to the truth. Will Elizabeth discover the murderer's true identity, or will Meryton lay in wait of another tragedy?

This Pride & Prejudice variation is suitable for all ages.

Chaos Courtship A Pride and Prejudice Variation An Elizabeth Bennet Cozy Mystery Book 1 edition by Erin Butler Mystery Thriller Suspense eBooks

This was a cute little story and made for a quick, cozy read. All of the action takes place over a few days following the Meryton assembly early in P&P, so the relationships are only just beginning--this is not a full variation on P&P, but the beginning of a series of novellas. There was a fair bit of sly humor in the story, which I enjoyed. When the guilty party was revealed, it came as a bit of a surprise--they had been on my personal suspect list, but not at the top. Short mysteries are usually more obvious, in my experience, so kudos to the author for that.

I probably would have given it four stars if not for the editing problems. While better edited than many JAFF novellas I've come across, there was a repeated error that should have been caught with even the most cursory attempt at editing, and was the more annoying for it--the Bennets (plural) are consistently referred to as "the Bennet's" (singular possessive). There was also the rather hilarious "ball [bawl] my eyes out", which I don't believe is a period-appropriate phrase even when written correctly. These and a few other minor errors in such a short work were sufficient to decrease my enjoyment in the story.

I will probably pick up the second entry in this series, but I do hope the author has someone look it over for errors first.

Chaos Courtship A Pride and Prejudice Variation An Elizabeth Bennet Cozy Mystery Book 1 edition by Erin Butler Mystery Thriller Suspense eBooks Reviews

This is a very good book. I love these pride and prejudice variation books. I get so wrapped up in the personalities of the characters that I laugh out loud when they tease each other. I really enjoyed this book as it had a mystery to it. Thank you for writing it. Please write more.
This was a short novella indeed, but I enjoyed it a lot. Im going to read the second part now.
The one thing it had going for it was that it was marginally better than the one were Mrs Bennett was a serial killer.
No romance. VERY little intrigue or mystery. Characters were nothing out of P&P. Sorry, I can find nothing to recommend. Story ends at about 64%.
First know that this story ends at 74% on kindle. We then are treated to promotions for other books. Secondly the title is rather misleading as there is little, if any, courtship going on. There is a murder as the book description tells us. Elizabeth is determined to stick her nose into the mystery due to the fact that her father has been accused and seems to be treating it all as a joke.

While Elizabeth goes off to question any name mentioned in connection to the case, she finds Mr. Darcy also showing up unexpectedly. He seems to find her questions posed to various persons amusing and he also tries to warn her off.

The events move quickly and the matter comes to an end....only to have Jane invited to tea by certain sisters.

So the little town of Meryton proves that you don't need the big city of London for murder, intrigue, scandal and some people who can't seem to get their facts straight.
